Ebook About When Laura Fry returns to her childhood home to care for her mother, she hopes the writer’s block that has swallowed her writing career will disappear. She doesn’t plan on turning into a “yard girl”, but her mother’s long neglected lawn beckons her to return it to the lush and colorful display it had been before her mother’s accident. Laura also doesn’t plan on making friends with the “nympho lesbian” next door—but she finds it impossible not to watch the parade of playmates that show up at her neighbor’s pool.Cassidy Anderson likes pool parties and female company. And while the pool remains the same, the female company changes nearly every weekend. As her mid-forties approach at an alarming speed, she’s still searching for the love of her life. When she finds herself seeking out the company of the cute tomboy next door, Cassidy starts to think that maybe she’s been looking in all the wrong places. Could it possibly be the neighbor who holds the key to her heart?Book The Neighbor Review :
I’m really giving this 1 1/2 Stars. 1 star because I’ve read dozens of Gerri Hill’s books and I know she can do better. The 1/2 of a Star is for the main character’s mother since she was the only person I looked forward to reading about throughout the short read. The “player” - Cassidy - was extremely unlikeable and inconsiderate. I.e. she’d have women over and without asking what kind of food they’d like to eat for dinner she’d assume they’d like what she liked and hated them for not liking it.Ever since The Locket’s release I feel that Hill has just been picking up books that she stopped writing years ago and finishing them just to sell. Not impressed. This was an enjoyable book and very funny at times. It's a clear winner from author Gerri Hill. A fast, easy read, and a book you would enjoy on a rainy day or anytime you want to give yourself some "Me Time." The two main characters are very likeable, though I think Laura is more relatable to most readers than the ultra-wealthy Cassidy. Laura is a former author with writer's block who moves back home to care for her invalid mother. She discovers a hidden talent: she enjoys doing yard work, gardening and landscaping, and restores her mother's neglected lawn and flower gardens to their former glory. Laura and Cassidy get off to a rocky start as neighbors, but slowly they develop a friendship which becomes something more. Laura is not Cassidy's "type" of woman; she's a player who likes to date thin, blonde, ultra-feminine models. Her friends also think sleek blonde models are more of Cassidy's type instead of the tomboy "yard girl" next door, so they try to discourage Cassidy from any relationship with Laura. In spite of each woman claiming the other is not her "type", the two are attracted to each other. Cassidy is tired of the brief, superficial flings with gold-digging blondes; she wants to find that special someone and settle down. Laura is searching to find her own niche in the world, along with a more stable life.Laura's mother ends up being a fun character--with the open frankness that comes with old age, she embarrasses Laura in front of people with her blunt observations and comments. There's a hilarious scene at Cassidy's pool where one of her former girlfriends (Claudia) tries to discourage Laura from dating Cassidy, adding some fun Dynasty-Joan-Collins-Biotchery to the story. But Mean Girl Claudia gets her comeuppance and it makes you root for Laura even more. It's interesting to see how Laura and Cassidy evolve and change. Do they end up together? I recommend you buy this book and find out.
