I was, unfortunately, disappointed in this book. Given that I enjoyed the Grace's Cove series, and the two books before this one, I had higher expectations. However, there seemed to be a genuine lack in this story that left me feeling like I wasted my time reading it.May contain spoilers:::::First off, the whole Loch back-story, though could have potentially been beneficial to the story, I found that it could have easily been done away with, to give more attention to the actual story. And he was just an annoying male anyway.Secondly, I love Bianca and Seamus, I really do, buuuuut.....Well, in this book they felt as though they made it too easy. Gwen didn't have this existential crisis finding out everything, and really, Loch knew what was happening, so he could have just been the informer to Gwen (and the readers). I think they might have been a slight detriment to the romance building too.Third. The romance. It killed me. There was no work, hardly any conversation, and no chemistry. It was teenage, and too fast. Even though we assume they will be together, it isn't ever that easy, and it was disappointing to get to the end of the book and realize, "oh, this is it."Fourth. I thought the siren/fae royalty thing might have been too much. Don't get me wrong, I love the fantastical, but in this scenario, I would have preferred the main concept and a little more work on the overall plot. It felt out of place, and more of a distraction to everything else that could have been/should have been going on.Sorry my review is less than positive. I will be buying the next one, I just really expected a little more from this. Gwenith Donovan lives a happy life in her quiet village, satisfied with her carry-all shop, comic book collection, and close relationship with her gran. She doesn't need romance to complicate things and keeps her relationships simple. But her life begins to grow more and more complex when she discovers she has magical abilities of her own and suddenly her life resembles something out of her fantasy books.High fae sorcerer Lochlan Laird believes the role of protector to be beneath him, but after breaking a sacred law, this is his punishment in lieu of the usual death sentence. Surly Lochlan makes no secret of his unhappiness at his situation as he tries to keep Gwen safe from those who would see their mission fail and ignore his unwelcome attraction to her. If they are to succeed in their mission to secure the ancient spear that is key to breaking a curse set to destroy Ireland, Lochlan must set aside his arrogance and Gwen must find her confidence before the fight is lost.Maybe I'm getting used to this narrator, because she didn't bug me as much on this revisit as she did with the two previous books. Lochlan was such a grumpy hero and Gwen was all sunshine and optimism and I enjoyed their interactions. This was a fun adventure and I loved that Gwen never became insufferable or made glaringly stupid decisions and, despite his surliness, neither did Loch. I also appreciated that, for all her sweetness, Gwen was still very strong, determined, and unafraid to fight for what she wanted. This was a nice story and probably my favorite audio revisit in this series. It was a lovely way to pass the time.
